More Free Bourbon. Again!

The fine folks of Jim Beam wanted to get y’all together again so they could buy you drinks and pour some tastes of the assorted Beams, Maker’s Mark, Basil Hayden’s, (ri)1 and more. In this economy, who doesn’t want free booze? Bourbon! Rye! Free! This Thursday the 12th, 8-10PM. ( facebook event )

Beer! Video Games! Kidnapping!

To All the Pixel Kids Past and Present:
If you’re in the NYC area for the Saturday after New Years (1/3/09), let’s get together at Barcade in Brooklyn for an evening of tasty beer and rocking out. If you haven’t been to Barcade, they have one of the best craft beer selections in the area on top of a ton of classic video games. Last year was a great time and only one person got kidnapped so let’s do it again!
I’ll be at Barcade by 10PM but if you want to join me for a brewery and bar crawl across Brooklyn earlier, drop me a line. ( Facebook Event )

Ithaca Beer is Turning Ten!

Join us this Thursday to celebrate Ithaca Beer’s Tenth Anniversary. We’re tapping a fresh cask of Flower Power. We’ll have the ubiquitous Apricot Wheat, the nascent Oaked Nut Brown, the rare White Gold, the burly TEN and the extremely limited golden sour Brute on draft! If you haven’t tried Brute yet, you’ll get your chance to fight the Pixel and Ithaca Beer staff for a pour of this tasty palate monster. The first 100 in get a free 10th Anniversary pint glass and every Ithaca Beer purchase qualifies you to enter their drawing for 10 cases of Ithaca Beer a year for 10 years!

New Beer!

We have a bunch of new stuff in this week. For starters, we have Ithaca’s Oaked Nut Brown on draft. This beer was born over several experimental cask nights at Pixel and tuned to just the right level of toastiness. While our weekly cask ale event has been put on hiatus while Ithaca Beer focuses on growth, we will have a special cask event on December 4th celebrating their 10th anniversary. More on this later… Save this date!

Also new on draft is the St. Bernardus Grottenbier. Created by Pierre Celis, the milkman turned master brewer who founded the Hoegaarden Brewery and brought wheat beers back from the dead in the 60s, this beer is a nice dark brown Belgian ale that’s perfect for the winter ahead. Yum! If the darker style isn’t your thing but you still want something to challenge Ithaca’s weather, we have the Avery Salvation. This is a kickin 9% ABV pale Belgian style ale from the boys in Boulder, CO. This one is big but smooth. Tasty.

New Booze!

We’re huge fans, but it’s been a year or more since we were able to get Anchor Distilling’s Old Potrero back in stock. Not just one, but both 18th and 19th century styles. Both are pot distilled from 100% rye malts, which was typical of the time. The 18th is aged in toasted barrels and bottled at cask strength (124.1 proof from this barrel). The 19th is aged in charred barrels and diluted down to a more reasonable 90 proof. Both are fantastic.

New Hours!

We will be closed for Thanksgiving Day, but otherwise open as usual. We are now closed on Sundays until spring. Stay warm!!!
