Art Show Art Show!

You might have noticed we have some new art on the walls at Pixel but the official opening is this Saturday at 8PM. Come meet Sophy Bot! “An absurdist and artist whose medium is life, Sophy Bot challenges expectations with logical nonsense and nonsensical logic while doing a bit of this that and everything (and sometimes nothing at all). Her current exhibition focuses on the digital realm and its impact on how we view the world around us. From insect invasions to real-world emoticons, Bot’s works depict a newly digitized modernity.” Art!

Wet Hops!

We have a special treat from Ithaca Beer this Thursday at 7PM: cask conditioned and wet hopped Outdoor Harvest Ale. This limited and draft only brew is packed with New York State Cascade hops from the Pederson Farms in Seneca Castle. The hops are used as is and without kiln drying; imparting a rich floral aroma without the usual bitterness of a highly hopped IPA. Combine this with a tasty malt base and you have a very drinkable beer. Drinkable here while the cask lasts, from growlers filled at the brewery and on draft at Pixel soon.

Monday Movie Nights

We’re kicking off Monday Movie Night with a Coen brothers marathon. Movie starts at 8PM with Happy Hour all night. Here’s the line-up:

Brew Fest Pregame

If you haven’t already heard, the second annual Ithaca Brew Fest is this Saturday at Stewart Park. You should definitely check it out. However, if you want to make a full weekend of it, you should be at Pixel this Friday at 7PM for a Jim Beam bourbon and bourbon cocktail tasting. This means free cocktails, snacks and a slightly academic tasting of Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark, Basil Hayden’s and Knob Creek. They’re also bringing white dog, which is straight out of distillation, uncut and with no barrel aging. White dog is a Team Pixel favorite. Free whiskey! Free whiskey!

Flavor Country First

Pixel Lounge, your fair and balanced bar, is giving equal airtime to the GOP Convention. So break out of your tiger cage and hear what McCain has to say tonight around 9PM. A not so conservative dance party will follow as a matter of course.

Fruit of the Week

Cucumber is the Fruit of the Week and we’ve muddled together a nice and tasty gimlet with Hendricks for you. We do, however, need a name for this and we’re challenging you to come up with something related to Scotland, Cucumbers and/or Roses that isn’t entirely crass. Of course, if you have way too much time on your hands you can try Marilyn Monroe Made Of Cucumbers.

Rock Obama

Please join us tonight for a bit of politics and rocking out. We’re showing Barack’s DNC acceptance speech at 10PM followed by a Bob Proehl driven dance party. We’re drinking more than the Kool-Aid tonight.

Fruit of the Week

Congratulations Strawberry, you are the Fruit of the Week! Every week, we’re going to pick a fresh fruit for muddling, juicing, garnishing and general cocktailing. Maybe even some vegetables that are technically fruit. But for this week, we pick Strawberry. James has some tasty drinks ready to go so drink up!

Change-Up

We’re changing a few nights at Pixel starting next week. Sunday, Monday and  Tuesday will remain all night happy hour. DJ Electric Mayhem will be back to rock Friday nights and Fuzzy Duck will still hold down Saturdays. So here are the new nights:

Wednesday - Trivia
We’ve had a lot of requests for a trivia night. This town loves it like it’s applying for a job as a writer on The Family Guy. The format will evolve, but for starters we’ll make good use of the projection wall to bring a bit of multimedia to the mix. DJ Kris Capulet will host the event from 10PM-Midnight spinning tunes throughout trivia and into the following aftermath. $50 bar tab goes to the winning team. Fun and Profit!

Thursday - AutoMatic Buffalo
Whaa? The ubiquitous Bob from No Radio Records has a new weekly night at Pixel. It promises to be danceable, fun and a welcome change from the usual Collegetown top 40 mix. The gloves are off. If you haven’t been to one of Bob’s events in the past, now’s your chance. Always a good time. No Radio is also celebrating its 2 year anniversary. So come check it out starting next Thursday the 21st at 10PM.

Brutal

So we just stopped by to pick up a Flower Power cask for tonight and found out Ithaca Beer has another future award winner again with their new release Brute. A “Golden Sour Ale,” it was aged for 9 months and slowly fermented with “wild” brettanomyces yeast. The result is akin to champagne with a nice balance of fruity sour and honey sweetness. The bad news is that we can’t get any at Pixel yet. The good news is that they’ll have it for sale at the brewery on Friday so drive on down to grab some for yourself before the limited 250 case release is gone. Ithaca Beer’s Executive Brewer Jeff O’Neil writes up this new brew on his blog here. We’ll let you know as soon as we get our paws on this unique and tasty release. It is awesome work.
